The world’s first bullet train was built in Japan in 1964. It covered 320 miles from Osaka to Tokoyo in about 3 hours (130mph). Today’s version tops out at 275 mph.

Rails today whisk tourists and commuters to all manner of destinations all over the world, including the famous London to Paris Eurostar line that zips beneath the English Channel.
