We’re Setting Our Sights On… The Northern Territory

December 8, 2014 Posted by admin - No Comments

With its wild untamed topography and rich indigenous culture Australia’s Northern Territory is a truly unique travel destination. Yet despite its rugged and remote feel the beautiful Top End can still be toured in grade-A luxury! To help you experience the stunning region in style we’ve come up with some of our favorite tips and ideas for high end travel that are guaranteed to have you swooning over Australia’s remote outback.

Cruise the rivers

There’s simply no better way to soak up the Northern Territory’s striking scenery than from the decks of a luxury river boat. The opportunity to take to the water allows you to explore hidden delights that simply can’t be reached by land – think plunging gorges, tranquil billabongs and lush wetlands. Nitmiluk Tours’ Nabil Dreaming Dinner Sunset Cruise is a fabulous indulgent option featuring a three course candlelit buffet dinner as well as a spectacular view of the fiery sunset over Katherine Gorge.

Candlelit dinner by Uluru

What better way to experience the ethereal beauty of Uluru than by watching the sunset while sipping on a glass of bubbly, nibbling canapés, watching traditional Aboriginal dance and listening to the intriguing sounds of the didgeridoo? If you’re traveling with a partner it’s the perfect way to spend a romantic evening. The extravagant Sounds of Silence dinner run by the iconic Ayers Rock Resort has our definite tick of approval!

Experience a luxury eco-lodge

When you’re exploring one of Mother Nature’s most stunning creations it’s worth splashing out on one of the Northern Territory’s many luxury eco-lodges. Most enjoy remote settings which make for a wonderfully intimate and isolated feel. We love Bamurru Plains, a small scale eco-friendly lodge located just west of the gorgeous Kakadu National Park. The establishment describes its feel as ‘Wild Bush Luxury’ with down to earth yet attentive service. We also take our hat off to the all-day cold drinks service – sunset G&T anyone?

Sample local cuisine

When you’re in Australia’s Top End sampling the local cuisine is an absolute must. With its soft delicate flesh and diverse range of cooking methods a freshly caught saltwater barramundi is an exemplary Northern Territory dish. You can also tantalize your taste buds with kangaroo, emu and even crocodile! For the more adventurous of palettes why not try hiring a local guide to introduce you to the quirks of bush tucker? The small group sizes and family owed feel of Animal Tracks safari in Kakadu National Park is one of our favorite ways to experience hands on Aboriginal eats!

Helicopter ride over the landscape

Exploring the Northern Territory from the ground is one thing but marveling at the dramatic scenery from a bird’s eye view is a whole other ball game! It may be a splurge but signing up for a helicopter tour which sweeps you over the sprawling landscape is a once in a lifetime experience! If you really want to get the adrenalin pumping a tumbling freefall with one of the NT skydiving won’t be forgotten anytime soon!
